About Us

Higher Weddicott Farm is set amongst rolling hills in the heart of the beautiful Dartmoor National Park just one mile from the bustling stannary town of Chagford. This historic granite barn was built in the 1700's and has recently been renovated, retaining all the features of a Dartmoor threshing barn, whilst offering state of the art comfort within a warm homely atmosphere.  Sue and David, who run the 70 acre farm on traditional lines, producing their own beef and vegetables, have been welcoming visitors to Weddicott Farm for the past 20 years. Higher Weddicott offers tranquillity, and spectacular views over miles of unspoilt countryside, an ideal base for exploring Dartmoor, walking, fishing, horse riding, golf etc., or simply unwinding with nature at your doorstep.

The Barn Renovation

In 2005 Sue and David started the renovation of the barn at Higher Weddicott.  It took 2 years, but in 2007 the truly superb conversion was ready to welcome visitors.

'We wanted to keep the history of the building and have a combination of the old and the new' recalls David, who managed the project and handled a lot of the restoration.  Much of the granite, as well as the oak beams in the 18th-century threshing barn they chose to retain, but the building is state-of-the-art, with sound system, lighting installation and underfloor heating throughout.

Once the building works were complete, Sue transformed the spacious, bright interior into luxury accommodation for guests who appreciate returning to their stylishly appointed rooms after an invigorating hike on nearby Dartmoor.

'We have been welcoming guest to Weddicott for over 25 years & love to share our knowledge of the local area with people keen to explore'.
